Spalted Maple Bowl

Spalted maple is a very unique wood to work with. The patterns on this bowl are not as extreme as some but it still creates a interesting affect . Spalting occurs as the wood ages and begins to decay slightly. It creates very striking patterns throughout the wood. This piece measures 5.5″ wide and 3″ tall

All of my wood turning projects are made from locally sourced hardwoods. With the small exception of some exotic bits here and there. I finish with a butchers block penetrating mineral oil and carnauba wax. So even though I would not recommend eating your cereal out of this piece, it is more than safe to handle and have on display.
